Rediscover Your Creativity
ABOUT ROSE BOLD CREATIVE
Rose Bold Creative was set up in 2018 with a mission to make the world a more creative, connected and beautiful place. As the pace of life becomes increasingly frantic, rediscovering your creativity through art, craft, drama and design is a productive and enjoyable way to take time out, slow down and reconnect with yourself and others.

Based in South West London, Rose Bold Creative runs a range of courses and workshops, supplies tried and tested art and craft materials and posts regular blogs about incorporating connection and creativity into everyday life.

Our tutors are all highly experienced practitioners in their field. Educated to degree level, they all have experience of working in business, as well as in their creative specialism. They understand that the demands of daily life and work can strip away the time and inclination to nurture our playful, creative side, but they know that reawakening the creative spark within can unlock our true potential and have huge benefits in every area of our being.

Whether you are taking part in a drama workshop, exploring concepts and experimenting with ideas, drawing, painting, writing, sewing, printing or taking time to redesign a space or a system, the practice of mindful re-connection with your inner creativity provides an important opportunity to reflect on your priorities and to rediscover your energy and enthusiasm for life.

Join us now and help to make the world a more creative, beautiful and connected place.

Activities At Home
There are few bright sides to the current situation.
However, enforced time at home might be a great opportunity to develop your creativity and learn new skills.
Sewing is a great life skill, and our packs of binca, thread and needles have been in great demand over the last week!

Sewing is one of the oldest textile arts and has been ingrained in our domestic lives for thousands of years. It refers to the ancient craft of fastening, attaching and stitching fabric with a needle and thread.

The Victoria and Albert Museum currently has a collection of over 700 needlework samplers ranging from as early as the 1400s, to pieces stitched in the 20th century. They offer a fascinating insight into the practice and teaching of an important domestic craft. The English word 'sampler' derives from the Latin 'exemplum', or the old French term 'essamplaire', meaning 'an example'. Before the introduction of printed designs, embroiderers and lace makers needed a way to record and reference different designs, stitches and effects. The answer was to create a sampler – a personal reference work featuring patterns and elements that the owner may have learned or copied from others, to act as a guide for new pieces of needlework.

Over the course of the 17th century, English samplers developed from personal reference works for embroiderers, into practice pieces for young girls learning needlework. Needlework skills were important for the future management of a girl's household, and the personal adornment of herself and her family. However, by the 19th century the sampler had become mostly a schoolroom exercise worked almost exclusively in cross stitch

In the 1960s and 1970s, practical skills such as woodwork, metalwork, needlework and home economics were taught in most middle schools. Children often learned to sew on coloured binca – a block weave cotton canvas material with a pattern of large, regular holes. They made table mats, wall hangings, shoulder bags and pencil cases using a variety of colourful stitches in embroidery thread.

Sadly, sewing takes time to master. Schools are understandably focused on the core subjects of maths and literacy, concerned about OFSTED and League Tables, and don’t have the time to spare on these time-consuming activities. Children are used to watching screens with fast-moving games, films and videos. As a result, a slow but creative skill which used to be commonplace is not being handed down to the next generation.

Sewing is not only practical, it’s good for you as well. Sewing improves your hand eye co-ordination, your creativity and because of the concentration involved it can help to reduce stress levels. Your mind and hands are active and busy at the same time allowing your mind to focus and forget the outside world. This is in the spirit of Rose Bold Creative. As events unfold all around us, and anxiety levels rise, why not buy one of our binca packs or our felt craft packs and relive your childhood, make beautiful gifts or teach your children to sew?
COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

Rose Bold Creative runs a range of courses for both adults and children in South London and Surrey.

We believe that the process of developing our creativity is at least as important as the finished piece of work. We value the time taken to explore the possibilities, experiment and reconnect with our imaginations. If the finished product is beautiful or successful as well, that’s a bonus.

Taking time to work alongside other people, be inspired by their journey and share ideas and experiences is part of what makes this such an important and rewarding way to spend time.
Our sessions are typically between ninety minutes and two hours long to give you plenty of time to relax and rediscover your creativity.
